Why pay full price when you can get free cashback or reward points every time you buy online? A growing number of cashback shopping sites offer you exactly that. They make a commission for every sale they generate when you follow a link from their site – so they share that commission with you. The shop sells more, the cashback site gets paid, and you get some money back. So everybody wins with cashback shopping!
Normally cashback sites have clickable links to online retailers that they get from organisations called affiliate networks. Some cashback sites have over 1,000 such links, meaning there’s plenty of choice of retailers for you to shop with and get cashback from.
So what is the actual process?
You log in to a particular cashback site.
You choose the retailer you want to buy from. The cashback offer for the retailer may be a set amount, e.g., £40 for a contract mobile phone, or it may be a percentage of your purchase total, e.g., 10%.
You click the link to the retailer, you are taken to their site and you make your purchase in the normal way. At this point the affiliate network will be tracking your transaction, knowing that you clicked through from a link on a particular website (i.e., the cashback site).
Usually within a day or two, the affiliate network reports the transaction back to the cashback site and states how much commission is due to be paid to the cashback site.
The cashback site credits your account with a proportion of this commission. The cashback becomes payable to you when the commission has been received by the cashback site from the retailer via the affiliate network.
Note that typically your cashback from purchases will become confirmed/payable about 2-3 months after the transaction. This is to allow for return of goods etc so that retailers don’t get stung.

Big Crumbs – is an established cashback rebates website (since 2005) which offers good rates of cashback for online shopping. The site also offers you the chance to earn extra cashback when referring your friends and family to the site, as whenever they earn cashback you get a small percentage of that too. Plus you can earn even more if they themselves go on to refer more active users of the site too. We have been a happy member of the site for several years and have received monthly payouts, which are by paypal. You can also now choose to get paid each month by prepaid mastercard too. You just need a $1 account balance to get paid. This cashback site is nicely designed, easy to use, lists lots of special deals and money saving coupons, and appears to have a lot of potential. It has to be one of the best cashback sites for US residents.
